The World of the Polar Bear

A powerful predator, revealed here by an acclaimed nature photographer.
The polar bear is the largest terrestrial carnivore, uniquely adapted to thrive in the harsh environment of the Far North. In The World of the Polar Bear, renowned nature photographer Norbert Rosing follows the polar bear through each season.
With its thorough and engaging text and spectacular photography, the book provides:
- A season-by-season account of the life of the polar bear, including feeding, mating, rearing of cubs and journeying from the ice
- An intimate look at the animals that share the polar bear’s environment, including seals, arctic foxes, walruses and muskoxen
- A section on such northern sky phenomena as sun dogs and the northern lights
- Many anecdotes and insights about the polar bear — at once a loving parent, a fierce predator and a natural jester.
In addition to the 175 truly remarkable color photographs, there are four spectacular gatefolds. The World of the Polar Bear will appeal to any reader interested in natural history, animals, and the Arctic.
Polar bears are seriously threatened by global warming, and this book will attract considerable press Krulak, they were well trained in guerilla warfare and night fighting. This is the story of the paratroopers attention.

5 Stars The World of the Polar Bear
Ours is essentially a tragic age, what about Global Warming? The polar bear is relevant. Scientists believe the polar bear will be the first to be threatened with extinction due to climate change in the North.
The World of the Polar Bear by Norbert Rosing merits close study.
The possible fate of the polar bear places the reality of climate change as a very serious matter to be considered by all of us!

5 Stars Wonderful pictorial
This book is beautiful. It is all about Polar Bears up-close and personal. It’s a keeper for sure.
5 Stars One of the greatest Polar Bear Book
Since others have issued several reviews, I will just skip the same point with them.
I really love this book, along with Thorsten Milese’s “Little Polar Bears”, they are two my most-love polar bear books.
What are the in common with two? They are both “large” books, compared with other books. While we spend a little bit more, we get lots back. They are hardcover books, with ~200 pages inside, much more beautiful pictures and words description aside. They seem to be living in arctic area for long time, maybe one whole year, to capture precious photos like mother and cubbies in the den, hunting seals … etc.
In this book ( Norbert Rosing ) you can find several famous pictures from National Geographic. I’ve found 1 for mouse pad, 3 for Desktop pictures.
If 30 dollars is not a heavy burden for you, I will strongly recommend to get this book rather than smaller and cheaper book.
5 Stars Amazing, beautiful photgraphic journal!
This book is amazing in several aspects! The photography itself is breathtaking and not only includes the polar bear as subject – but also it’s habitat,(and the other species that share it)with it’s seasonal changes. The photography itself increases in incredibility when you stop to think of the ardous task of photographing this beautiful animal without disrupting it’s daily life; it’s almost as if the polar bears are performing and posing on cue! The photographer brings this process to life in the journal-like entries. This book is appropriate for all ages as it does not exhibit any frightening scenes and only sparse vague descriptive dialog of feedings. Several of the photos are alternately touching and amusing. I hope this book can serve as a wakeup call in preserving this vanishing amazing animal!
5 Stars A Coffee Table Book That Matters
Do not pass this one by. THe World of the Polar Bear is a visual delight. To me it is the epitome of a book for a prominent spot in your home or library. ‘Wonderful gift for anyone and especially one who loves wildlife.
The book is stellar because it is not only full of superior photography, but because the photography captures this beauty of nature in poses and landscapes that one could only experience up close in the wild. The work is beautiful.
The book is appropriate now because the bears face possible extinction and having such a timely book will only raise awareness of this issue and hopefully provide motivation for people to support solutions.
I find it hard to be any more specific about this book as how can one put beauty into specific words. It is what it is and I remain awed.

The Magic Tree House transportss Jack and Annie to the freezing Arctic.

5 Stars We Loved Polar Bears Past Bedtime
We loved Magic Tree House#12: Polar Bears Past Bedtime by Mary Pope Osborne. Jack and Annie had a challenging riddle to solve in the Arctic. They needed to solve the riddle to become master librarians. There was a lot of action in the story. Jack and Annie had to work together to get back home safely. We learned many interesting facts about the Inuit people, polar bears, and the Arctic. Mary Pope Osborne used descriptive language that helped us visualize. We loved the story and think you will too!
5 Stars Review by Mitchell H. (8 Yrs. old)
You should read this book because it has good facts. Did you know that a 270 lbs female cub polar bear can go on thin ice without falling through? Is that cool or what? My favorite part is when Jack and Annie meet the cubs and play. It takes place in the Arctic. What do you think will happen to the two kids? Will they become frozen dinners to the bears or will they get save? Read the book to find out!
5 Stars The family loves them!
My four year old son is in love with this chapter series! A friend suggested it to us since he seemed ready for a more advanced reading material at bedtime. My husband reads him a chapter every night…sometimes more because they don’t want to stop. It’s become a great tradition for them, and something they both look forward to. We love that there are so many in the collection! Start with number 1 and just continue.

Little Polar Bear and the Reindeer

In this new adventure featuring Lars, the Little Polar Bear, the short North Pole summer is ending. Lars watches sadly as the geese head south again. Soon after, the reindeer, too, start their winter migration. But this year, man has interfered with their journey. A high fence that goes on for miles has been erected right in their path, and piles of giant pipes litter the landscape. The herd is trapped. If they can’t get through, they will perish. Once again, it’s Lars to the rescue. Using his brains and the muskoxen’s brawn, they are able to break through the barricade and the reindeer can continue on to their winter grazing grounds.
Fans of the Little Polar Bear books will delight in this exciting new story with its subtle reminder of man’s impact on nature.

Little Polar Bear Take Me Home

In his earlier adventures, Lars, the little polar bear, has often been lost far from home, and each time, someone has helped him get back safely. Now, it’s Lars’s turn to help when a little tiger named Sasha finds himself lost and alone at the North Pole. Full color.

4 Stars Little Polar Bear…
Little Polar Bear, Take Me Home is one of a series of children’s books featuring the adventures of Lars the polar bear. Lars even has his own series of cartoons in Germany.
When I first saw the book I immediately (and mistakenly) thought Alaska for the setting and thought perhaps the tiger on the cover was escaped from a zoo or a circus. He’s neither; he’s a wild tiger from presumably India who has accidentally hitched a ride on a freight train to the arctic circle.
Lars, who is looking for a snack and a bit of adventure, finds the tiger at the end of the line and in the course of trying to help the tiger find his way home ends up on the return trip of the train. From there in typical children’s book fashion, the two animals must enlist the aid of other animals as they travel through far and distant lands on their search for the tiger’s home.
5 Stars My daughter loves Lars
An adult might find the storylines a bit repetitive but my 3 year old loves all of the Lars books. We got her some at xmas and she was so pleased that we bought all the others for her birthday 5 months later and she wants them read to her over and over. She even ‘reads’ them to her younger brother!
5 Stars Great Book
My nephews love all the little polar bear series by Hans de Beer, and so do I. Great illustrations, he meets animals that he makes friends with, and a nice ending. I’d can recommend them all.

5 Stars Lars Is On Another Adventure
It’s hard to resist this beautifully illustrated series about Lars, the Little Polar Bear. In this edition, Lars meets Sasha, a tiger, and they both have to find their way home after stowing away on a Russian train. Along the way they discover each of their natural talents, and there’s a nice message about appreciation for parents, the ocean, and each person’s unique abilities. Not sure how accurate the geography is, but it doesn’t really matter. The introduction of different animals and scenery is what makes the books so appealing. All of these stories have a happy ending. My son likes to roar and point to the tiger and bear on each page.
